Exploring the stories behind street names in Durham.
From January to June 2013, a group of Year 5 and 6 pupils from Durham Gilesgate Primary School took part in a series of afterschool workshops to develop their heritage skills and to explore creatively the stories behind street names in the Gilesgate area. We worked closely with the DLI Museum and also interviewed members of the local community. The children then used drama, art, filmmaking and creative writing to design a special exhibition which ran for 6 weeks at Durham Art Gallery.
“Down Our Street has been the best afterschool club I have ever been to!”
